autumn purse
I absolutely adore Japanese linen/cottons in the gorgeous prints. When we went to japan, I wasn't able to bring that much back - this fabric is spendy - even over there. And so when my mom showed me this amazingly gorgeous appliqued purse, I was over the moon excited. Alas, it wasn't for me. This is Momma's latest addition to our etsy store.... Its just stunning, and perfect for fall.
painting with inkpads
I am going to start to post some more substantive stepouts. Since this is both a stamping and a scrapping blog, you'll find entries that may or may not be too elementary, or too complicated, for you. But hopefully, overall, it'll be useful to someone at some point.... My hope is to upload something at least once a week. Wish me luck....
Today is coloring with inkpads. I learned this technique at a stamping expo maybe 2 years ago. (This was part of a coloring class I did at the LM anniversary crop this past weekend)
Stamp various dye inkpads onto a nonporous clear or white surface (Just turn your pads over and press once onto the pallette). I have a palette here that I bought at the stamping expo. Any thing nonporous would work. Since mine is clear, I put it over a white piece of paper so I could see the ink and the colors.
Take a water brush - dip the tip into one of the ink colors
Paint
Rub tip onto a napkin to clean it.
Repeat with another color until you are done.
Here's the card it went on (this is a re-post of the card)
There is a layout using the same technique (using ranger adirondack inks) on the Prima Paintables (which is pre-printed watercolor paper - but the concept is the same)

newsletter reveal
The theme this week was chipboard and coordinating stamps. I love that these maya road stamps were sized perfectly to fit the maya road chipbaord backs. (I can never resist products that do that - i love the stampin up stamp/punch sets...)

hip hop thursday - 9-18
WELCOME to everyone joining me from Jen's blog in our fabulous Unity Stamp Company Hip Hop Thursday!!! If you haven't just joined me from Jen's blog, start at Unity's blog and follow the hops through the DT blogs, where you'll find tons of beautiful samples using Unity stamps, and at the very end, some blog candy!! :)
My first piece this week is from the new kit Something Within, beautiful modern Bible verses - newly released today.
This card was for SCS194, Splitcoast Sketch Challenge 194, using scraps from my Glitz Designs paper.
My next card is one I made using my scraps, and the gorgeous Love Builds a Home single
And finally, I am so excited with this next canvas because it is very very different. I have always admired mixed media painted canvases but I've really not known how to do them. I took a class, and had a fabulous time. I used the Distressed Dots background stamp (which could possibly be my most favorite stamp EVER), and the Thanks To You kit. This really helped me move through my scraps too! AND it was so easy - my DD did one too. We had a blast.
{If you are interested in this class too, check out the anniversary crop forum tomorrow and all weekend at lifetimemoments for class instructions to make this mixed media canvas}.
As always, Angela has some fabulous Hip Hop specials for today only. Check out her blog for the specials. Unity's blog.
Now hop on over to Patter's blog for the next step in your journey! Hip Hop!

VOTE VOTE VOTE!!
Four of us over at Unity (me, robyn, brooke and laura) are in Round 1 of the Simple Scrapbooks "So You Think You Can Stamp" contest.
If you are so inclined, I (and we) would so very appreciate your vote!! I think you can vote once a day until the round closes? (Not sure about that one - but I'm sure you can at least vote once...) :)
THANK YOU, and please feel free to pass the word....

Journaling reads:
"Behind our building at the Westin Miyako in Kyoto, a beautiful bird trail worked its way up the mountainside. After a long day of sightseeing, and when the heat had cooled somewhat, we decided to attempt the climb. Perhaps the walking sticks at the base of the trail should have warned us. The hike turned out to be very vigorous. Parts of it were marked with hundreds of little steps, others were more roughly natural. The walking sticks became crucial to keeping our balance, as the trail went on and on (and on and on). At one point, a sign was posted, saying the burning sensation in our lungs was actually cleansing to the spirit. But we plugged on, and eventually, we reached the top!! We were so proud of ourselves. The beautiful view and the clean mountain air had an invigorating effect, as our inner warrior escaped, and we celebrated our accomplishments. August, 2008. Kyoto, Japan."

Friday belated reveal
LM's theme this week was sports:
1) Hoopster
With the new cosmo cricket, AC thicker letters, Pink Paislee stickers, and Pink Paislee diecut
and some painted "netting" holding the noodles I bought from the store... (I love it when I can repurpose...)
2) Orange Belt
This was hard because the colors in the pictures were all muddy and the pictures so busy. So I balanced that with a very graphic style layout.
Pink Paislee diecut paper, and my new favorite letter stickers by Basic Grey; I cut apart the glitter cut transparency and used it like paper....
ooooh - check back - starting next week - stepouts!!!

boo!!!
Lifetimemoments is having its anniversary crop coming up with a ton of awesome classes. The DT always comes up with neat projects. This time, there's one that blows me away everytime I look at it. Tracy Austin is probably one of the most out of the box innovative technique driven scrapbookers that I know and she came up with the most spectacular Halloween project I've ever seen - check out that detail!!! If you are interested, hop over to the store and order your kit - and then wait for the crop when class instructions will be posted.....
TRACY AUSTIN'S HAUNTED HOUSE
Check out the other cute projects in the works for the crops. (PS - there will be other classes - these are the ones that have associated kits...)

organizational tip
Organization is a huge thing with me in my crafty space. Because I am a very spontaneous crafter with extremely limited time, I need to keep my stuff easily accessible and in easy reach/use so I can grab that 30 minutes when I can, w/o having to spend half of it digging out from under a mess to search for something or the other.
My stamp pads have been a huge challenge. I use different brands for different reasons, and they are different sizes. i've tried everything to store them but they were always a little bit to much effort to access (zipped baggie) or too huge (the cassette on the wall method). In recent years, I've been using a CD shelf unit - but its large and I have to get up and walk across the room and squeeze in to a very small space - if C isn't blocking it b/c his computer is right there...
So, I wanted them on my desk - which does not have a lot of room. enter - this company
Acrylic Stamp Pad Organizer
Oh, this was so perfect. They are all on my desk right now and i can just reach over. Doesn't matter which pad I want, easy in easy out.... I thought I'd share.
(These are the promotional pictures from their website - mine doesn't look that cute but its completely functional)

newly listed
My mom is an amazing quilter. She's just retired (as of 8/15), and starting to contribute to our Etsy store. If you get a chance, please take a peek at her most recent addition, a 92"x92" quilt (its pictured on my cal king platform bed in these pictures...), machine embroidered with the prettiest pearly thread, and accented with the most jaw droppingly pretty Savorski crystals. As you can see, the level of attention to precision and detail is superb.
