thursday reveal

over at lifetimemoments and the theme is flowers....

This was my mother's day card this year from C.... He was so proud of it. The number tape is bookbinding tape, and so it acts like a hinge b/c there is writing on the back of the card too.

PP is Jenni Bowlin's Brown Transferware (oh how I love Jenni's style) [Off topic a bit - my home printer can't print black and white worth anything so I got these done for pickup at WM b/c I didn't plan ahead in time enough to get it done through winkflash. I love how its so much more black and white crisp? it costs a bit more, but I may just start sending the bw over to WM for printing.... if you scroll a few down to my sketch challenge layout from monday, you can compare the bw print from Winkflash)

This is the new Kimberly Poloson line. Very heritage looking but I didn't have heritage so I compromised by meshing it with some fancy pants, autumn leaves and sassafrass lass. TFL! Wendy

When I was preggers with C, Martha Stewart had an issue about baby knitting. She wrote that there was simply nothing that matched the feeling of your child wearing something you made them, staring back at you....

She was totally right!! Back then when I had all that "down" time because of pumping, I knitted a lot. I still do, but realize that my attention span is limited to small projects...

Lately, I've been having a small love affair with my hand-me-down bernina... after spending a few weeks making doll clothes, I realized that I wasn't as terrible at sewing as I thought it was and with each project, I'm gaining confidence. I've been totally loving the mixed print looks that are so popular right now, but I can't see spending the huge $$ for them. I also love the vintage prints. I've been playing around with "big" clothing for Ms. A, since I don't much care for what's being offered in the stores right now... She totally loves it when I make her something. This is the first one that came out that I don't feel ashamed if she walks out of the house wearing it.... I never want to be "that" mom who has her kid walking around in obviously home-made.

A couple of observations - either I'm crazy, or patterns really do make a difference. This one was a McCalls - it was much more involved in the making than a simplicity pattern, and I like how it looks so much more finished....

challenge monday

Christi's running a simple scrapbook challenge this week at splitcoat: Simple Scrapbook Challenge Week 1

Here's my take: I stayed true to sketch, but I substituted a 5x7 for the 4x6 in the sketch. TFL! Wendy

Feeling inky and painty today... This was inspired by Melissa Thigpen's "crumble your background paper" technique. I crumbled, gessoed, inked....

PP is crate paper. Stamp is the Beautiful Life kit from Unity Stamp Company.

"search for the best chowder"

journaling reads

In our house, vacations are as much about the food as they are about any attactions. We love to go searching for the 'best' of this or that food dish. Here, we were searching for the best clam chowder. Not sure if this was the 'best', but it was pretty yummy!

Pricebook - Maya Road

Thursday's project (a day late...)

This project was inspired by a “What are your best money saving tips” thread, and a member's response about the preparation of a price book, to keep in your purse and keep track of what the prices are at different places for your favorite products, so “you’ll know at a glance whether you’re getting a deal” at lifetimemoments.

Like many, my food and household bills have gone through the roof in the past few weeks. With $4/gas in a city that has a very poor mass transportation system, I am looking for ways to adjust to our new financial reality. What a great idea the price book was. And the Maya Road sheer album was perfect. It fits perfectly in my purse and because it is plastic and not cardboard, it will stand up to the repeated jostling and handling.

To get detailed pictures and instructions, as well as the PDF for the template for the insert tables, please see lifetimemoments newsletter (click here). TFL! Wendy

Unity Stamp storage

I thought I'd share how I store my Unity Stamp Company stamps. They are so lovely and THIN... I can get a ton into a regular little basket. This is my stamping corner. On the wall my woodmounts are stacked on leftover moulding we had from when we did the floors when we first moved in. I need to paint that wall. But I was too impatient to get into my stash when we moved. :)

Emmeline

I had seen these aprons in stores and wanted one so - but they ran upwards of $80, and alas, that wasn't for me.

Then, one day blog surfing, I came across a link to an awesome pattern for it:

Emmeline apron pattern

And I am thrilled that it came out sooo nice! I'm a new sewer, and so I was nervous, using 40% off fabric from Joanne's just in case it came out looking totally home-made and I'd have to trash it (or put it into the "schlump around the house" pile). I am so thrilled at how it turned out! and doesn't look 40% off!! It was slow go and I ripped out and redid a few seams here and there - but I really do love it..... What do you think?
