are you crazy for daisies?

EXCLUSIVE for kit club members only - you can get the awesome October 09 Daisy Incentive Kit, a little bit folk, a whole lot of cute!!!

I thought it was perfect to make some pretty flowers out of some scraps of "wood" paper I had. Stamp with a light color dye ink, then highlight the edges to give some definition, add some dimension (I learned that cool idea to glue the bow tied button upside down from my friend NancyT - it made those side by side buttons not look like they had the samesies disease), and adhere to a prefabbed tag. I love how it turned out.

Be sure to check out the rest of the team today as we all play with the kit... Have a wonderful Wednesday!

DT Tuesday - I'm up....

Good morning everyone!! Its Unity's DT Tuesday, and I'm up!! :) Hello hello!!

So, I've really been enjoying the October 09 Kit of the Month. I think I've used just about every stamp at this point :)

For my project today, I had a fun time trying something new. I used markers to color directly on to this solid imaged stamp, and stamped it directly onto this prefabbed yellow "so happy" SEI tag. Then I went in with color pencils to outline some of the edges. I really like the overall effect - you really can't tell its stamped over YELLOW - I 'm going to play with this technique a little more....

Thanks for stopping by. Enjoy your tuesday!

solid images stamping

When you have solid image stamps like the dress on Melanie the Shopper from Rubber Romance, you don't have to be limited to ink colors for your choices - you can still have patterns. How? Dye inks are slightly sheer. Choose a light color that will still show up over a subtly patterned print. Be sure to test it out on a scrap to make sure your ink will show up and that your print is not so busy that it overwhelms your image.

Here's a close up of Melanie:

The pink actually doesn't look all that hot on the slightly gray-ish background like that. But after you cut the solid parts out and piece your image - its really pretty...

Its still a little "floaty" on the edges so outline with a black pen to confine it a bit

Then make up your card like always....

Enjoy. Wendy

copic master color turnaround

Sometimes I use a color combination that I just love - or see it on someone else's card. I had been jotting them down on yellow postie pads but that has quickly gotten unworkable. After having made the hair/skin colorboard, I realized that there was no reason I couldn't so something similar for my favorite combinations. I wanted something easy to flip through and use as a reference. This Maya Road Small Calendar Stand was perfect. Not too big such that it takes up too much room, it was the perfect size and scale for my desktop.

I fully expect this to become very full eventually, and so I did not want to bulk it up too much. I set aside only two of the thick chipboard inserts to act as dividers for "warm" color charts and "cool" color charts, and quickly covered them with some scrap paper.

Next, cut several insert pages to 3"x3.75" from your favorite "use with COPIC" cardstock. Mine is Prism's Simply Smooth Cardstock.

Stamp multiples of the same easy to color stamp using your favorite "use with COPIC" ink - Mine is Memento Tuxedo Black. The stamp is from Unity Stamp Company's September 2009 Kit of the Month. I like to use the same image throughout, because it really highlights the color differences better, IMO.

Then, simply experiment with your favorite color combinations. These are a combination of my own favorites, suggestions from others in the LM stamping forum, and from me surfing the web for my favorite copic artists (many will post their color combinations with their creations). Note that these are not fully colored, nor are they all that CAREFULLY colored as to the smaller details - my goal was to catch a blend only for reference sake, not to create a perfectly colored image.

a quick, but FLAT decoration on the cover finishes the project. (I want it flat so I can maximize the insert page space).

Then its just a quick flip to find my favorite for whatever paper I'm working with.  Extra pages are clipped to the back for easy access when I come across a new combination I want to memorialize.

Right now, I really struggle with yellows and pinks, and so, plan on surfing to see what others have done.

I hope this helps... TFL. Wendy

Autumn Pals

The CHA releases included some super cute fall images in the Unity Stamp Company Autumn Pals kit. This was one of those kits that as soon as they got here, my daughter grabbed one and started to play...

Here are our cards - I colored the first two - my DD colored the last one.

(I also love that the nonanimal images in this kit are very universal and the perfect scale to use with some other stamps that I can build scenes with... Totally awesome and very diverse).
