some challenge entries

I really love doing challenges. I always forces me to work a little out of the box and I always just love the feeling of accomplishment.

This first one is for the Designing With challenge running at Lifetime Moments - Week 3 - January 14 - combine stickers and rubons for a fun title:

This next one is for Week 6 of the We Dare You challenge, also running at lifetimemoments.

Luxe Color Me

the theme for this week's newsletter was Luxe's Color Me paper. It is a cardstock weight PP that is plain black and white, for you to color any way you wish.

Here are my two:

My favorite way to color is to use a water brush, and some coloring medium...

1) ink pad pressed onto something plastic to get some ink dribbles, that I then dip my water brush into, and then color.

2) plain colored pigment inks (I have a calligraphy ink set) - same method - the color on this method is much more concentrated

3) water color paints - artist grade is very vibrant. for a softer color, I use my DD's water colors.

4) same method - with chalk or you can just use qtips with chalk directly to paper w/o water. its a very soft color

5) i've tried pencils and crayons too (I went through an experimental phase too with the Prima Paintables). I prefer these two methods less.

I love the waterbrush you don't need to change brushes between colors. just whoosh it a bit on a scrap, then go on to the next color.

6) color with stickles

7) OR i'll use the paper just as a black and white on its own.

At the end, I liked the results. It is different than the Prima Paintables (which are a printed WATERCOLOR paper) but fun, nonetheless. Totally brings you back to your childhood days of coloring....

My mom's website with her friends finally went live (click on the link).

Click here to go to PREVA BABY homepage

It is very cute. The featured product is an adorable peek a boo baby quilt. Pictures are printed behind this four paneled triangle flapped square, the baby opens it up and sees the picture. My baby niece never gets enough of it - a total joy of discovery every time.

A perfect perfect heirloom baby gift.CLICK HERE TO SEE HOW IT WORKS

There are also baby blankets (non quilts) and related items.

Everything is made only from the best quality fabrics and trims - and everything has been tested with use from the artists' grandchild babies and their moms. Pictures are printed on inkjet fabric and then incorporated into the quilt.

This January, I hit my 2 year "term limit" on the Prima Marketing team. It really was a wonderful time and I am grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of such a wonderful team with such a wonderful company. I am leaving this post with some of my favorite projects from 2007 for Prima. My best wishes for the 2008 team...

Altered Canvas

I saw this quote on Ali Edwards' blog the other day and was so inspired. I wanted to make it into an altered canvas to put up in my room.

This is the "Lifetime of Inspiration" set from Unity Stamp Co.

I also used the gift tissue paper (birds) from a gift my mom got for Christmas from JJill. Isn't it the most awesome paper???

Quote reads:

To live content with small means; to seek elegance rather than luxury; and refinement rather than fashion; to be worthy, not respectable; and wealthy, not rich; to study hard, think quietly, talk gently, act frankly; to listen to stars and birds, to babes and sages, with open heart; to bear all cheerfully, do all bravely, await occasion, hurry never; in a word, to let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious grow up through the common. This is to be my symphony.

We Dare You - Week 4

My DD loves to play in my scrap room. My DH gives me no grief whatsoever about the prodigious collection of stuff that I have, but with a very small caveat that I actually totally agree with so we're ok - with the exception of the stuff I have that is set aside for specific design assignments, nothing in my room is off limits to my DD - sometimes it need supervision (i.e. cutters, etc) but nothing is barred. And so, I will sometimes walk into my room to see she had been there, with little creations all over my desk. This layout was the result of me wanting to save some of it from this week's round of stuff she's made.

This is for Week 4 of the We Dare You challenge at lifetimemoments.

"I love to make things"

PP is junkitz, Love Elsie, American Crafts and Autumn Leaves.

Thursday reveal

Thursdays are newsletter days at Lifetime Moments. Today's theme was journaling...

1) It's True

Journaling rounds reads:

"They say you are so young that you won't remember. It's true. I don't remember"

And the journaing reads:

My earliest memory is a hazy view of a hand holding three pills, the sleeping pills my mom gave me to keep me calm on the long flight to America. I always thought our immigration was so seamless, but for the fact it erased my memory of my life before."

2) 3 weeks

Quilting Arts has TV!!

oh lookee!! Quilting Arts, one of my fave publishers, has a series on public access tv... the class descriptions look awesome. check it out! Quilting Arts TV

my paradigm shift

Maybe about 2-3 months ago, a series of books came out that changed my way of thinking as I approached my work. Ali Edward's "Life Artist," the Effer Dares "We Dare You" and a few art journal books whose authors are escaping me right now.

With all, I loved how the focus was on reality scrapping and not just scrapping good stuff. Not that scrapping the good stuff is bad. It remains the prominent focus of my scrapbooks. But - I don't know why, this "permission" if you will to scrap "real" has really energized my drive for wanting to create. I guess b/c there is a therapeutic element to it, mentally, I feel freer to kind of experiment? We're running a "Dare" challenge at the lifetimemoments board, and its been wonderful to jump start my creative drive...

Here's what I've done so far..... TFL! Wendy

And we're off!!!

Hello!!! I've bitten the bullet and decided to start my own creative blog. Thank you so much for visiting my little corner of the web!!

My name is Wendy and I love all things crafty. I am an obsessed scrapper and stamper, but also love sewing, knitting, crocheting, altered art, and mixed media.

I am currently on the design team for and the Unity Stamp Company. I am just maxing and terming out of my stint with Prima Marketing Inc. I was also a designer with Leave Memories before Holli Boyd sold the company and disbanded the team.

I look forward to sharing my life and my work with you in the coming days and weeks!! Thanks for visiting, and come back soon...
